This week has been a wild ride! Lots of ups and downs!
Earlier in the week, I received some network feedback on my 'Mouth to Mouth' pilot script. In short, it wasn't good enough to get picked up, but it wasn't bad enough to get tossed in the trash. The studios are mainly green-lighting reality right now, and if they DO green light sitcoms, there has to be a big name star attached. Which, sadly, we don't have.
At first, I took the news semi-harshly (even though I know that rejection is part of the game out here), but after talking with family and friends, I became more content with what feedback I had received. The fact that I even had the opportunity to pitch my pilot script to the networks is truly amazing.
After having a talk with the cast and crew, we have decided to continue moving full speed ahead. Just because the networks didn't like our script 100% doesn't mean we don't have a good product. In fact, some told us we have something very unique and different. Others even encouraged us to take things into our own hands and start filming, so that is exactly what we are going to do. We are going to take the feedback we CAN control, and move forward and push our great product out there for all to see. Within the next week, our fundraising campaign will begin.
On Tuesday night, members of the Mouth to Mouth family went to the Hollywood Improv (which is one of the BIGGEST comedy clubs in town) to see our very own Mike Dolan perform. In our show, Mike plays one of the lead roles, and it was great to see him do his stand up bit on stage.
Other than that, I've just been staying busy and trying to keep up on life. I've been taking more risks than usual lately (by putting myself out there and pushing 'Mouth to Mouth') and some have been paying off, and others, I have been learning from. For example, I've learned that when you are pushing and promoting stuff, everybody wants to meet at a restaurant / coffee shop. It's just the industry standard. And while they may be small expenses, if you put a few together, they add up quick! HA! I'll be looking forward to putting those as a 'business expense' next year :)
It's been a wild ride, but overall, I can't complain. :) More soon!
